Robert Jeffrey Williams charged in child pornography investigation
Acting on a referral from the Baden-Württemberg police in Germany, officers assigned to the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams have investigated and charged a 27-year old Medicine Hat man with child pornography counts.
German police contacted Canadian officials after discovering the accused’s peer-to-peer internet activities.
According to Staff Sgt. Joe West of the Medicine Hat Police Service, in early September, ALERT Internet Child Exploitation officers found an extensive collection of videos depicting extreme child abuse during a search of the home belonging to Robert Jeffrey Williams.
A forensic analysis of the computers and electronic devices seized is ongoing.
Williams was arrested on Sept. 22 at the Calgary International Airport. The accused was out of the country when his home was searched and the evidence was seized.
Robert Williams has been charged with possessing, accessing and making available child pornography. He is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat court on Oct. 14. Williams is on interim release with multiple conditions in place. West says he will be closely monitored by police.
“At this point of the investigation, ICE investigators do not believe any of the victims are from Alberta, or that any hands-on offences had taken place”, says West.
Anyone with information on the Medicine Hat child pornography investigation or any child exploitation offence is encouraged to contact police or cybertip.ca.
The charges against Robert Jeffrey Williams have not been proven in a court of law.
