Crash near Chestermere on Highway 1
Single vehicle rollover crash near Chestermere at Highway 1 and Rainbow Road.
Strathmore and Chestermere RCMP report two people were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Chestermere on Tuesday evening.
Just after 9:30 p.m., police along with other emergency services were called to the crash site at Highway 1 at Rainbow Road.
Sgt. S Vince of the Strathmore RCMP says investigators believe the eastbound minivan the two victims were traveling in lost control and rolled through the median, ending up on the westbound shoulder of Highway 1.
The driver was declared deceased at the scene. A female passenger was treated at the scene and rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Strathmore RCMP are continuing their investigation into the collision. At this time, police believe speed may have been a factor in the crash near Chestermere.
The names of the victims are not being released.
