Two fires at High River seniors complex set in front entryway
Two suspicious fires at High River seniors complex damaged front entrance of facility.
High River RCMP are investigating two back-to-back suspicious fires at a the Co-op Housing Seniors Complex in High River on Wednesday morning.
Just after 12:30 a.m., High River RCMP and Fire Department were called to the complex to investigate a suspicious fire. “Unknown persons set fire to the bulletin board located in the front entrance way as well as newspapers stored in a bin outside the front door”, says Cst. Caithcart of the High River RCMP.
The fire was contained and did not spread to any other parts of the building. Residents had to be evacuated from their suites while fire crews extinguished the blaze.
Cst. Caithcart says about one hour after emergency crews left the scene, RCMP and fire crews were called back to the seniors’ home after a second fire was set to the same bulletin board.
The residents had to be evacuated for a second time from their homes.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire, containing the damage to the entryway of the complex.
